New painters are tempted to buy every color under the sun. Gradually, you learn that you can make many colors by mixing only a few. All of these colors, both the background and the swatches, were made by mixing just the three primary colors at the top of the page, red, blue and yellow. The differences are in how much of each pigment, and how much water, were mixed in.
